Jeremy Carnovale

Age: 17

Club: Mounties (Mount Pritchard)

Rank: Red 2

Q: Provide a brief introduction about yourself, eg. Study/work, interests/hobbies, inspirations/aspirations, etc

I am currently in year 12.  Anyone who knows me well would say that I can be eccentric at times and yes, I agree.  I think that is due to the fact that I am not afraid to be myself.

I really enjoy training Tae Kwon Do every week because it keeps me fit and healthy.  I am a huge car enthusiast which began back when I was very young.    My aspirations are that regardless of study, work or play I plan to keep training at Tae Kwon Do.  In the near future I will attend university and  I also hope to build a property investment portfolio.

Q: What is an interesting fact about yourself that people would not have expected?

I have a photographic memory.  When I was in year one at school I used to remind the teachers when their car registrations were due.  I knew each of their number plates by memory and I can tell the year a car was manufactured by looking at the number plate.  I can also pick the make of a car by the sound of its engine without seeing the car itself.

Q: What sparked your interest to train in martial arts?

My Uncle Glen.  I was also very impressed with what I had seen on the Hwarangdo website.  The idea of being able to be physically fit and the possibility of improving my flexibility and co-ordination.

Q: When did you begin training with The Australian Hwa Rang Taekwondo Academy?

My first training lesson was on Saturday 9th  May 2009 at Mounties, Mount Pritchard.

Q: Why did you choose The Australian Hwa Rang Taekwondo Academy?

My Uncle Glen trained with Master Kim when he was younger for approximately fifteen years.  He always spoke very fondly of him and has great respect for him.  I wanted to improve my fitness, co-ordination and flexibility so I went along  to a trial lesson and haven’t stopped since.

Q: What are your favourite techniques?

I don’t have one particular favourite, all apects of Tae Kwon Do are my favourites right from the beginning stretches, the kicks, punching, self defence techniques all the way right through to the warming down stretches.

Q: What has been your training highlight or most memorable moment to date?

Going to tournament was a real eye opener.  Watching all of the competitors, particularly the free sparing events made me realise that Tae Kwon Do must be respected, it is not a game where you can muck around.  You must concentrate at all times and watch your opponent carefully.

Q: What are your training goals?

To maintain a healthy fitness level and continue training at Tae Kwon Do regardless of study, work, play and women!

Q: What or who do you look to for inspiration in both your work/study life and your training life?

In both work and training life, Mr Kim is the one who inspires me for a multitude of reasons.  The first and foremost is the fact that, albeit through an unspeakable amount of hard work, dedication and long, long hours, has managed to build both his own wealth and fitness at the same time.  He generously shares his thorough knowledge and experience of Tae Kwon Do allowing his students to gain confidence, improved flexibility and co-ordination. He also shares his vast knowledge of what is good for the body and what is not.  I have a great respect for Master Kim, Master Shane and Master Steven who are all very generous with their immense skills and knowledge.

Q: What lessons have you learnt during training that you have been able to apply to your personal/professional life?

I realise that nothing is achieved overnight.  You have to apply yourself, be dedicated, focused and patient, in short, you have to work hard  to get whatever you want, whatever that may be.

Q: How has Hwarangdo impacted your life?

I have gained confidence in my ability of fitness and health.  My family has a very busy lifestyle as do many families nowadays. Tae Kwon Do is something that brings us together to train as a family.  After long hours of study Tae Kwon Do provides a time for stress relief, fitness, and has given me the opportunity to meet some very impressive and talented athletes. I have also made some new friends along the way.

Q: As a HwarangdoSTAR, many younger members may look to you as a role model, what advice or experience could you offer or share with them?

You won’t know what you are capable of until you try it.  Although Tae Kwon Do may look hard at times, particularly whilst observing the Black Belts, with time,  dedication, effort and persistence, you will be able to master your goals.

Hwarangdo congratulates Jeremy for his dedication, commitment and demonstrating the Hwarangdo spirit to become the newest and youngest HwarangdoSTAR!
