David Dennent

Rank: 3rd Dan Black Belt

Year started training: 1988

Favourite kick: Back and turning

Training highlights: 1st Dan Queensland technique tournament winner 1997

Most inspirational sportsperson: Master Kim, Mick Doohan, Troy Bayliss

History:

Started training with another Taekwondo group in 1988, had a motorcycle accident along the way with broken femur &, wrist, fractured skull and brain haemorrhage.  Recovered to continue training and eventually achieved black belt.  Found this group to be very political and with no real opportunities or encouragement to continue after achieving black belt and so stopped training.

Received a flyer in letterbox about a new Hwarangdo class in my neighbourhood, went to investigate and discussed club etc with the instructor and happily accepted grade of red 1 after seeing superior technique and skill.  Met Master Kim shortly after who remains my inspiration today.

I took over the class after achieving 1st Dan and trained a few students through to their 1st Dan also. Had to close the class due to personal commitments.

Opened current class in my church with full support of the church and attached school in 2004.  Still going strong with a great class of enthusiastic students.
