Korean War Memorial Dedication - 2009
On the Eve of the 56th Anniversary of the Peace Negotations that ended the Korean War, the Australian Hwa Rang Taekwondo Academy pays tribute to those who passed during the war with a Korean Martial Arts Demonstration.
Master Myung Man Kim, answering the call from the Korean community to perform at the Dedication of the Korean War Memorial, mustered his team to showcase a demonstration of the traditional Korean Martial Art, Taekwondo.
The team, multicultural in nature can be likened to the multi-national force that came to the aid of South Korea all those years ago.
After a warm up of furious kicking and punching, the team started the demonstration with a traditional Korean Military Salute paying homage to the Veterans of the Korean War.
Many different aspects of the martial art were displayed including the demonstration of Poomse (Patterns or Forms of defensive or offensive movements against an opponent), precision accuracy and power breaking techniques, weapons and a range of male and female self defence techniques.
All techniques performed were well received by the crowd shouting cheers of encouragement and delightment with each demonstration.
This demonstration team was comprised of a number of new members as well as its stock of seasoned veterans. As a veteran of the team, it was heartwarming to see the young members (nervous as they were) rise up and perform their best.
The Australian Hwa Rang Taekwondo Academy would like to thank the organisers of the Dedication of Korean War Memorial for inviting us to perform our Demonstration.
Lest we forget
